While the economy has affected us all in one way or another, we continue to do our very best for ourselves and our families. With this in mind, I hope you won’t forget the dreams of our forefathers to continue this great reunion and help when and where you can.

One such person is a past president, Benton Leach, Jr. As president he shared a dream of our family having our own building some day. Benton was instrumental in starting the $1 a day men. It is part of the reason we have been able to have the kind of reunions we’ve enjoyed over the pass eight years.

Another effort that has helped previously is fundraising and the efforts of our current Vice-President, Lawyer Stewart. While everyone didn’t participate in this effort, you enjoyed the benefits if you attended a reunion within the pass five years. Others have volunteered to pay for a specific part of the reunion activities/supplies so we can continue to have monies to reach the dreams of our forefathers.

$20 certainly doesn’t go as far today as it did five years ago. Think about what you can do as an individual to help the family reunion. Get with your immediate family members and talk about pledging monies .

Where your treasure is stored is where your heart is. Can the Stewart Family Reunion count on you? Call Ira Evans with your pledge information. Ira is the grandson of Etta Stewart Melvin.

If you have ideas/suggestions, please come to the meetings so you can share.

MISSING INFORMATION

Is your genealogical information missing from our Stewart Family Reunion Tree? Please take a look at the tree and make sure it completely represents your branch of the tree. If you have had additions to your immediate family, please send any updates to Sarah Morgan at 5717 Fisher Road in Temples Hills, MD 20748. If you know of additions to other branches, please submit this information. It is important that we track our heritage and branches as closely as humanly possible. This is a BIG undertaking and it helps to get good information as quickly as possible.

Is your address listed in the Stewart Family Reunion book? Is your address listed correctly in the Stewart Family Reunion book? Send all address additions/corrections to Stewart Family Reunion , c/o Sandra Butler at PO Box 1085 in Coats, NC 27521

2010 Plans

FOR 2010:“Theme’s will be used as follows: Friday – Christmas in September; Saturday – Happy Birthday,
and Sunday – Thanksgiving. Peggie Harris will head up a decorating committee (she will need volunteers to help set up cleanup and purchase).

* Friday – We will decorate like Christmas including a tree and the food. The adults will play a game where everyone who brings a gift wrapped with no name costing $10-15 can play. Games are always welcome. This will be something for adults to do so young folks (the original reason for Friday night) can have fun as well. Kelvin Gilbert will be asked to DJ and Willa Elliott will be asked to cater. We are looking into the Coats Community Center for use for Friday night and Sunday’s lunch.

* Saturday – Happy Birthday – We will decorate according with signs and balloons. We will recognize all family members by asking them to stand based on the month of their birth. We want to provide a gift to at least one person per month. Please help with this if you can. We will have our usual hot dogs, hamburgers, and fish. The first choice in a park is the Williams Park in Riverside if available and adequate for handicapping persons. The second choice is the Biltmore Park in Raleigh (where the picnic was held last time). There is a possibility that we may have a storyteller for Saturday – one of our cousins has volunteered to pay for this entertainment.

* Saturday Evening – We will have our usual Saturday Night Gospel Sing. Feel free to invite groups to sing or display other forms of talent appropriate for a church. Minister Sandra Butler has been asked to MC.

* Sunday – Coats Chapel will host Sunday School. Several names will be submitted to the family Elders for suggestion as to whom should bring the morning message. They include Donna Denning, Rosalind McClain, Peggie Harris, and Katie Dunston. These are the only family members were are aware of who are preachers who have not preached at a family reunion. The meal should mimic a Thanksgiving meal to include turkey and stuffing. We plan to use the Coats community Center for lunch following morning worship service.
